The Christopher Kolade Award for Excellence in Music is designed to recognize and honor individual achievement, innovation, and creativity in the field of music. The goals of the Prize are to reward talented music students, encourage them to persist in building a career in the field of music, and motivate other students towards creativity and excellence.
Five outstanding university-level music professionals who have achieved exceptional levels of success and have demonstrated outstanding musical merit and promise have been selected for the 2015 awards. Awardees will each receive a N250, 000 cash gift which can be used towards advanced studies in music, in the pursuit of a professional career in music or other activities that can facilitate their professional advancement.
The selection process for the award recipients included a Call for Nominations disseminated to all Nigerian public universities that offer Music programs. Fourteen nominations were received and all nominees were invited to appear before a final screening panel that consisted of respected music professionals.
