A group has decided to look away from the din of popular music to appreciate and reward those who are making music from an academic environment. Vanessa Obioha reports
Awonuga David, Adeyeye Oluwole, Eze Gerald, Adenuga Johnson and Olarinde Rachael were all smiles last weekend at the Christopher Kolade Foundation (CKF) Music Excellence Awards.
They just got N250,000 richer for their outstanding performance in music. Earlier in the evening, they wowed the crowd with their theatrical rendition of “That’s what Friends Are For” by Burt Bacharach.
With the violin, xylophone, piano, Igbo flute and the Yoruba ‘shekere’; and a rich vocal, these music students gave an impressive dialogue of sounds and vocals. They displayed their music prowess with the synergy they brought on stage. For instance, they didn’t come on stage at once.
