SHE Initiative

Since 2016 the Foundation has worked in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education to even the playing field for girls from lower income families. Our goal is to grow the number of confident, ethically conscious young girls; support the successful transition of girls from lower-income homes to postsecondary education and high-growth career fields; and promote gender equity in science and technology fields.  Over 2000 girls have since benefitted from the Foundation’s programs. 

SHE In-School
Club

SHE In-school clubs deliver up to 24 (twenty-four) weeks – an average of eight weeks per term – of hands on technology workshops, and leadership and ethics training.

SHE In-school clubs deliver up to 24 (twenty four) weeks – an average of eight weeks per term – of hands on technology workshops, and leadership and ethics trainings.

Students are immersed in hands-on interactive learning in electronics programming and mobile games development, with opportunity to both observe and apply new knowledge in a manner that promotes enquiry, teamwork, critical thinking and effective problem solving.

Clubs meet once weekly for 60 -120 minutes, during already scheduled co-curricular activity slot. 

The STEM curricula covers an overview of thriving science and technology career fields, with project-based activities delivered around modules on electronics programming and mobile games design.

SHE Life and Leadership

Designed to equip and empower girls with the skills and confidence to navigate life successfully, contribute to community and  positive life outcomes.

The SHE Life & Leadership Workshop is designed to equip and empower girls with the skills and confidence to navigate life successfully, contribute to community and ultimately help contribute to positive life outcomes.

The program, which is delivered as part of in-school club activities and during holiday programs,  covers modules in self-awareness, self-esteem, communication, goal setting and leadership and ethics.

SHE Holiday Remediation

The Holiday Remediation is a 2-3 weeks non-residential camp designed to bridge gaps in English language competencies of SHE participants and hedge them against summer learning loss.

The Holiday Remediation is a 2-3 weeks non-residential camp designed to bridge gaps in English language competencies of SHE participants and hedge them against summer learning loss. A leadership and life skills workshop is also delivered during the holiday program.

The workshops aim at addressing common errors in English and preparing the girls for their high school diploma exams. English teachers from the Lagos state education districts deliver the English workshops. Utilizing a WAEC based curriculum, trainers cover sentence structure, continuous writing, reading comprehension and exposition to the WAEC marking guide.

The SHE Valedictory Event agenda features inspirational guest speakers, reflections from graduating SHE participants, donor meet and greet, roll call and badging of the graduating SHE class. SHE Pride is a fun, memorable graduation event in celebration of the girls.

 

 

SHE Science and Technology Fair

The SHE Science & Technology Fair is the only girls-only science fair of its scale in West Africa, and perhaps Africa aimed at promoting the applicability and fun of science to girls.

The SHE Science & Technology Fair is the only girls-only science fair of its scale in West Africa, and perhaps Africa.

The annual Fair provides a platform for SHE participants to demonstrate their learning and proficiency in electronics programming and mobile games design, sharpen their communication skills, build their confidence, and promote the applicability and fun of science to a wider audience of girls.

The one-day event features exhibitions of the girls’ projects, and inspiring panels of young girls and women in STEM, including SHE participants.

The maiden Fair took place in November 2018 at the Shell Hall MUSON center with over 600 guests and students in attendance. The second edition in January 2019 had a little over 700 students and guests in attendance.

The event has since pulled notable female guests/speakers including CEO of Siemens Nigeria, Mrs Onyeche Tifase; General Manager DeepWater Operations with Chevron Nigeria, Mrs Michelle Obatoyinbo, and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule.

SHE Advance

SHE Advance is a mini conference designed to orient SHE alumni and graduating class on a variety of career options and steps required to follow them.

SHE Advance is a mini conference designed to orient SHE alumni and graduating class on a variety of career options and steps required to follow them. 

The career exposé affords participants the opportunity to explore career profiles that align to their interests, skills and aspirations and gain information on specific courses, and post secondary alternatives to pursue those pathways.

Over 230 students and guests attended the maiden edition of the SHE Advance event in June 2019. The schedule included two very informative plenaries by Mrs. Abimbola Shopeju, Deputy Managing Director, Lumos Nigeria and Mrs Boladele Dapo-Thomas, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Entrepreneurship, who represented Mrs Folashade Jaji, Secretary to the Lagos State Government.

The event also featured five concurrent workshop sessions covering the fields of Biological Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology, Financial Services and Law. All workshops were delivered by professionals from leading companies in the respective fields.
